Checks, Meds Stolen From Mailbox
A local man has reported to law enforcement officers that in past weeks someone stole checks and medications out of his mailbox.
According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, the victim filed the complaint on Wednesday. He reported that he had moved to an address on Community Road just two weeks prior.
He said that he had been awaiting arrival through the mail of checks from Chase Mortgage and Bridgestone, but that they had not received them. In addition, he said that he did not receive his prescribed medications that are also delivered by mail.
The victim reported that shortly after moving in he had noticed a woman with gray hair looking into his mailbox. When he asked what she was doing, the woman reportedly told him that, “The postal service had messed up everyone’s mail in the neighborhood.”
The checks, the victim said, totaled $1,400. He stated that he had made contact with both Chase Mortgage and Bridgestone. Both said the checks had been mailed on February 15.
They instructed him to contact them after March 15 should he not receive them, and that new checks would be issued. He told deputies he had also contacted company officials about his medications and that they were in the process of refilling the prescriptions.
Investigation into the matter is on-going through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
